Leather Care Tips
Not all leather is alike, Quality Leather is thicker and produced from
excellent grades of leather. A lot of "Discount"
sites offer thin leather or inferior leather or patched leather. Don't be
fooled by people offering quality
cowhide
motorcycle leather for a ridiculous low
price and then sending you medium weight pigskin. It's not fair
to you. Our policies, supplier information and a brief description of us can

Maximize the life of your leathers with our
leather care tips
Store your leathers properly to keep them looking good
 |
Leathers should be hung in an area with good ventilation
avoiding direct sunlight and excessively dry or humid conditions |
 |
Hang your leathers on wide or padded hangers to avoid
permanent marks or stretching |
 |
Do not store leathers in plastic or non-breathable
containers or covers |
Clean and Condition your leathers properly to keep them soft
and supple
 |
Avoid waxes and silicone. These products clog pores in the
leather making it impossible for conditioners to penetrate between the fibers
|
 |
Conditioner should be applied at least twice a year or when
the leather feels dry or stiff |
 |
Leathers will repel water better if they have been
conditioned regularly |
 |
Leather should be cleaned sparingly by professionals who
specialize in leather cleaning |
 |
If necessary, a very small amount of saddle soap can be used
with very little water to clean spots |
 |
Do not confuse conditioning with cleaning. Conditioners
penetrate the leather while a cleaner should remove the dirt without causing
it to penetrate into the fibers |
Motorcycle leathers are going to get wet
 |
Wet leather should be allowed to dry at room temperature
away from direct heat. |
 |
Excessive water can be gently blotted with a towel |
 |
Do not RUB leather with a towel |
 |
Water is very drying to leather, so a good conditioner
should be applied after the leather has dried |
With proper maintenance, you leathers will provide you with
life long durability.
What can I use to clean and
condition my leather goods?
When choosing leather-care products, it is important
to know whether the product is a cleaner or a conditioner.
Leather cleaners contain ingredients that lift and remove dirt without
driving it into the leather fibers. By contrast,
leather conditioners contain ingredients that penetrate between leather
fibers to lubricate them and keep them supple.
Many new leathers have a naked or suede finish, which may absorb the
cleaner or conditioner differently than leather
with a normal, smooth finish. Note: Cleaners and conditioners are not
intended for use on leathers with a suede or
nubuck finish. Always test cleaners and conditioners on a small,
inconspicuous area of your project
What
is meant when leather is referred to in "ounces"?
Leather thickness is usually measured in terms of ounces.
One ounce equals 1/64" in thickness. Thus, a weight of 7 to 8 oz. means the
leather is 7/64" to 8/64" in thickness, or approximately 1/8" thick. The
thickness of leather varies to some extent throughout the hide. This is why
leathers are usually shown with a range of thickness such as 4 to 5 oz., or 6
to 7 oz. As a comparison, a quarter (coin) is equal to a 4 oz. thickness
Unlike man-made materials that appear flawless, any skin
has surface scratches and scars, etc., and contain Subtle variations in color
and texture resulting in natural markings which add to the uniqueness of each
item. These variations in no way affect the durability or performance of the
glove. Normal use will enhance the character of this leather
